40K pounds of mac and cheese donated to central Ind. food banks

INDIANAPOLIS - A national company with local ties is helping to feed the hungry in central Indiana.

Land O’Lakes donated 40,000 pounds of frozen macaroni and cheese to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and two other food banks.

Every month, Land O’Lakes makes a similar donation to communities around the country. The company is a cooperative which is member-owned. Some of those members are farmers in Indiana.

"What better way to give back to the communities -- food and fiber that the farmers produce. It’s a good way to honor our farmer owners by giving back to the community," said Land O’Lakes board member Jeff Troike.

Gleaners received 20,000 pounds of the macaroni and cheese and a $10,000 donation. Gleaners said the need is so great, the macaroni and cheese will be distributed to hungry families over the next two days.

Terre Haute Catholic Charities Food Bank and Food Finders Food Bank in Lafayette each received 10,000 pounds of the mac and cheese.
