GREENWOOD — A central Indiana program is helping students in Greenwood gear up to become classroom to career ready as first responders.

The Central Nine Career Center's Fire and Rescue program helps students figure out if they're cut out to become firefighters or EMTs some day.

Students perform mock search and rescue incidents, mock fires and other exercises to get first-hand experience.

They also and have the ability to earn multiple certifications before they even graduate high school, like first aid, basic life support and CPR.

Program teachers are actual firefighters that come from multiple departments around the area. Not only can they teach the students the skills they will need to succeed in the career, they can also share their own experiences and perspectives from someone who has done all of them in the field.
