INDIANAPOLIS — Ivy Tech is offering free tuition for volunteer first responders in Indiana so they can earn their associates degree.

The Ivy Tech Community College Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship is meant to help further the education of volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel in the state of Indiana.

The program is part of a partnership between the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association and Ivy Tech to recruit and retain volunteers first responders in areas where they are seeing a shortage, especially in rural areas.

Ivy Tech says they hope that by funding the pilot program over the next two years it will provide information to the state of Indiana that could justify funding of a statewide program in the future.

For more information about the scholarship and program visit the Ivy Tech Community College Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship website.
