Students at Owen Valley High School are getting real world experience by helping to run a bank at school.

A mini branch of "Our Community Bank" is located right inside the high school so students can take part in the OCB Financial Literacy Academy and get hands-on experience from bank employees.

"We're here to help the students learn about banking, answer any questions they may have, and our hopes are to get into the classroom," OCB Jenny Knapp said

Letting students run the mini-branch gives them the chance to develop skills and knowledge about how to manage their own money. The students also learn how to write checks, balance accounts and use a debit card.

Students can also help fellow students with their actual accounts, which gives them an idea of whether or not they would like to explore a career in banking after they graduate.

They can deposit or withdraw money before school or during lunch into their real accounts. If they don't have an account, they're also able to open one up on site.
