TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek High School is offering students the opportunity to graduate from high school with experience and knowledge that will help them secure a job in the technology field.

The Tech Tribe is made up of about a dozen students interested in computer science or technology. Students that take classes on these topics can join the team and essentially be part of the school's technology staff.

Seniors are given the opportunity to do hands on training through their work based program.

Isaiah Lacey who graduated from the high school this year, spent his summer working in the school with the tech staff.

"I wanted to do it to get experience because I want to do this for a living," Lacey said. "I want to be in the computer science field somewhere."

The program started last year.

Andrew Summers, director of technology for the Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson School Corporation, is proud of the program. He said it allows students to get those two years of experience often required for entry-level jobs.

"The students become fully integrated into our technology team here," Summers said. "They take classes in the morning and are just another member of our staff in the afternoon. They help troubleshoot devices, work on technology problems their fellow students and teachers might have. They also work to repair devices that are broken."

For Lacey, the opportunity proved to be a very important one when planning out his future.

"I was really trying to decide between the sports management field and this field," Lacey said. "I actually got to take two classes, one in each, and it helped me decide that this is what I wanted to do. This is the way I wanted to go."

Summers said the field needs more people like Lacey.

"Technology is becoming more and more important and more and more integrated into our lives and into our schools," Summers said. "Having people that are skills in that and knowledgeable in that is going to be incredibly valuable."
