PLAINFIELD — Call it a school for the "non-traditional student," both adults and high school age.

Monday, the Plainfield Town Council approved the building of a higher education center to be known as MADE@Plainfield.

The nearly 100,000 square-foot facility will be built just north of Plainfield High School and is expected to be ready in time for the 2021-2022 academic year, according to Stephanie Singh, Director of Communications and Marketing for the Town of Plainfield.

Planning has been going on for a few years and has involved the Town of Plainfield, Plainfield Community School Corporation, Vincennes University, Ivy Tech Community College, WorkOne, Hendricks College Network, and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The education center will offer training and degree programs for adults and high school age students that are designed to support job and career success. The building will include classrooms and labs, as well as office and meeting rooms for several career and workforce development agencies.

"Ivy Tech Community College is excited to be a partner in this collaborative opportunity and looks forward to expanding our academic offerings and enhancing pathways for workforce attainment and growth in Hendricks County," said Kathleen Lee, chancellor of Ivy Tech Central Indiana.

"Vincennes University is pleased that the MADE@Plainfield facility is designed specifically to continue the full range of training in transportation, distribution and logistics that area students and business have come to rely on from us," said Vincennes Vice President David Tucker.

Many of the job opportunities in Plainfield will be right outside the door of the education center. More than 20,000 people work in the numerous warehouse, supply chain and logistical businesses that call Plainfield home.

Construction will begin next month.
