Woman Was Visiting Friends In Jacksonville Area

A 21-year-old woman from Indiana who was visiting a friend in Florida drowned Thursday in rough Atlantic Ocean waters churned by Tropical Storm Fay.

The woman, whose identity wasn't immediately released, her boyfriend and the male friend they were visiting decided to swim at Neptune Beach Thursday afternoon, Jacksonville TV station WJXX reported.

Neptune Beach police told WJXX that the woman got caught in a strong current and went under the water.

The men told police that they were not able to save her because they were also having trouble in the strong surf.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Florida authorities were working to contact the woman's family in Indiana before releasing her name.

Six deaths in Florida alone were blamed on the storm, which ravaged the state for several days.
