INDIANAPOLIS — A facility that serves the northeast side will receive $1.4 million in grants.

The money will help the Edna Martin Christian Center launch phase two of the expansion of its second site. The 'Leadership and Legacy' campus is on Ralston Avenue, south of Douglass Park.

Officials say the funding will help the center expand food access, offer early-education programs, help strengthen community-led development projects, and much more.

"Certainly, at the end of the phase we'll have an introduction of our entrepreneurship center, playscape our full dedication for our senior room, which we're naming in honor of Pastor Alexander; it's just going to be a great time," Barato Britt, the president of Edna Martin Christian Center, said.

The Edna Martin Christian Center was founded in 1941 as a faith-based agency aimed at bridging cultural, racial, and economic differences.
