INDIANAPOLIS -- Two people were killed in a fiery car crash early Thursday morning in downtown Indianapolis.
The crash happened around 1 a.m., near the intersection of 16th and Illinois Streets.
Authorities say a navy blue Tesla, headed north on Illinois Street, left the road, hit a tree and a building and caught fire.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the driver as Casey Speckman, 27. The passenger, who later died at the hospital, was identified as Kevin McCarthy, 44.
McCarthy was the president and CEO of 'Case Pacer' and Speckman worked in case management software sales at the company.
McCarthy graduated as Valedictorian from the FBI Academy and was the youngest FBI agent in the country at the time. He also served on several local boards.
Casey Speckman was an Indiana University and law school graduate, who was engaged to be married next fall to her college sweetheart, Brandon Seniff. Her family released this statement:
"The Speckman Family is grieving the sudden loss of Casey, beloved daughter, sister, cousin and fiancee. We ask that you please respect our privacy during this difficult time"
Friends of the couple left words of sympathy and condolences on Seniff's Facebook page
Speckman was driving the Tesla early Thursday morning. Witnesses say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash.
Firefighters say the impact of the crash was so great, the car disintegrated. Pieces of the car were found more than 150 yards away.
There were multiple fires in the road, left by the small batteries and magnesium.

The fact that it was a Tesla car gave firefighters another challenge when dealing with the fire. Firefighters had to use a combination of dry powder and water to get the fires out.
The road was closed for about three hours, but has since reopened.
