GRANT COUNTY — A 2-year-old has died after being struck by a vehicle in Grant County on Labor Day.

Indiana State Police responded to the scene on Grant County Road 600 South near Grant County Road 1050 East in Upland around 6:48 p.m. Monday.

Investigators say a 29-year-old man was driving a 1988 Olds passenger car when he struck Neveah Braggs, 2, who was standing in the road for an unknown reason. The toddler was taken to Blackford Hospital where she died from her injuries.

ISP says the posted speed limit in the area where the crash occurred is 55 miles per hour and the driver was not required to stop at the approaching intersection. It is unclear why the toddler was in the road at the time.

The driver was not injured. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.
