KOKOMO—A series of incidents late-Saturday in neighborhoods just south of downtown Kokomo has residents concerned and police looking for suspects.

Just after 9 p.m., police were sent to the area of Park Avenue and Armstrong Street on a report of gunshots and a group of males running from the area. According to Public Information Officer Captain Tonda Cockrell of the Kokomo Police Department, officers found "numerous" shell casings in the area.

About two-hours later and a few blocks east of the first incident, police were sent to the 600 block of South Union Street. People there said they heard gunshots and saw several males run from the neighborhood. Officers found shell casings in the street at South Union and Vaile Avenue.

A few minutes later and a short distance from the second incident, residents reported hearing gunshots and police found more shell casings in the street at Bell and Harrison, near Meridian Park.

Police then went to Community Howard Regional Hospital where an 18-year-old gunshot victim showed up at the emergency room. He told investigators that he was shot in the leg while walking near Meridian Park. Police say the young man then became "uncooperative" and refused to answer questions.

"Several homes and businesses were struck by bullets during these incidents where the shell casings were found," according to Cockrell. "Kokomo Police Department requests homeowners check any home surveillance systems they have for potential suspects and vehicle information."
