INDIANAPOLIS — A planned 38-story hotel at Pan Am Plaza in downtown Indianapolis will be part of Hilton Hotel's new Signia group.

The announcement came Friday from Hilton and Visit Indy.

The hotel is one of two planned for the site across Capitol Avenue from the Indiana Convention Center and will be connected to the center by a skybridge.

Visit Indy Vice President Chris Gahl called Hilton's decision a "big win for the city."

"The fact that Indy is one of just three cities in the world to have two Hilton-branded hotels, connecting into the Indiana Convention Center validates out growing tourism destination," said Gahl.

Hilton also plans to open Signia Hotels in Atlanta and Orlando.

With 800-rooms, the Indianapolis Signia would be the second-largest hotel in the city.

Hilton will also operate a new 600-room hotel next door to the Signia, although its brand has not been announced.

Both hotels, along with an additional Convention Center ballroom are expected to be ready by 2022.

Funding for the project is still in the works. with state lawmakers considering a bill that would provide some of the money.
