FISHERS — After two recent near-drownings, the Fishers Fire Department is reminding people to stay safe around water.

The fire department is encouraging people to practice water safety, especially over the Fourth of July weekend, after the near-drownings, including one involving a child at a neighborhood pool,

About one in five people who drown are 14-years-old or younger, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

While kids are in or near a pool or open water, the fire department says an adult should be watching them at all times and not be distracted by something like a phone or a book.
