INDIANAPOLIS — For the last eight years, Howard has been one of the hardest workers at Indianapolis International Airport, and one of the most important.
Howard is a ten-year-old Labrador retriever who has worked for the Transportation Security Administration as an explosive detection canine.
He is named after George Howard, a former Port Authority Police Officer in New York, who was also a volunteer firefighter.
George Howard died in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers.
Howard the canine is retiring from his work at the airport and received a send-off on Friday.
While most of his time as been spent at the airport looking for explosives, Howard has taken a number of out-of-town "business trips."
'We've been to five Super Bowls, we've been to a G8 Summit, we've been to the Indy 500, we've been all over the country doing big events, presidential inaugurations and things like that," said Wendell Hart, Howard's handler.
Howard has had a busy eight years keeping us safe, and now he can relax a little.
