FRANKLIN — The Johnson County prosecutor's office filed misdemeanor animal cruelty charges against a man and woman Tuesday.

According to a prosecutor's office release, Michael Setser, Greenwood, and Amanda Setser, Franklin, were charged in the death of their dog, Chuck.

Johnson County Animal Control received information of a deceased dog in a trailer on Jan. 17. Officers who checked on the dog found him in an emaciated state in a crate.

The Setsers are divorcing and during the time between Jan. 7 and Jan. 17, Amanda Setser returned to the trailer to collect her belongings. The prosecutor's office release said she noticed Chuck breathing heavily and seemed ill. After she filed for divorce, Michael Setser also left the house.

They are both accused of failing to take Chuck with them or provide him with food or water. A veterinarian who performed the necropsy determined Chuck died of starvation.
