COLUMBUS, Ind. — One man was arrested after he stole a truck with the owner's dog inside, police say.

Officers with the Columbus Police Department were called to the 300 block of Center Street Sunday morning on a report of a stolen truck.

The truck's owner told police he left it running in front of a friend's house while carrying groceries when somebody stole it. The owner's dog was also inside the truck when it was stolen.

The suspect was taken into custody.

The vehicle and the dog were returned to the owner. The dog was unharmed.

The suspect was arrested on the preliminary charges:

  • Auto Theft
  • Theft
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident
