BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University now has all of its athletic facilities in one "neighborhood."

Wilkinson Hall joins Assembly Hall, Memorial Stadium, Armstrong Stadium and the rest of IU's sports venues on the northwest side of campus.

Dedication for the new 3,000 seat home of the university's volleyball and wrestling teams was held Wednesday.

Until now, both sports used University Gymnasium on 10th Street.

"In this splendid arena, IU student-athletes will demonstrate the dedication, fight, pride and resilience that are the hallmarks for IU athletics and its student-athletes," said University President Michael McRobbie at the opening ceremony.

"This state-of-the-art multi-use facility is the final piece of the master plan to complete the athletics campus," according to Athletic Director Fred Glass.

Wilkinson Hall is named after IU alumnus Jay Wilkinson and his family for their $10,000,000 gift to the school.

There must be some magic in the new arena -- Wilkinson Hall hosted its first event last Saturday, a wrestling match between Indiana and Maryland.

The Hoosiers won it 36-3.
