LEBANON, Ind. — A 4-year-old girl who was hospitalized in critical condition after she was accidentally shot by her younger brother has died.
According to the Lebanon Police Department, the shooting happened at the children’s grandparent’s house in the 300 block of N. Park Street shortly after 10 a.m. on November 29.
The Lebanon Police Department says Izabella-Marie and her 3-year-old brother were being cared for by their grandparents in Lebanon. Izabella-Marie was accidentally shot after her brother found a weapon that had been left unsecured in the residence.
Izabella-Marie was taken to Riley Hospital for children where she later died.
Her father, Alonzo, says Izabella's organs were donated to other children in need. Izabella's heart went to save a 1-year-old and two other children got her liver and her kidneys.
"Her heart went to a 1-year-old. Her liver went to another and her kidneys," said Alonzo. “She was always loving, really strong, always cared for others and was a really bright light for my family."
Investigators from the Lebanon Police Department and representatives from the Department of Family and Child Services are investigating the incident.
"We would like to encourage parents, grandparents, and anyone possessing firearms to keep them secured in a location that is not accessible by children. Gun locks are available at no cost at the Lebanon Police Department."
Family friends are raising money for the family to help pay for Izabella's funeral expenses.
