BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- Boone County Deputy Jacob Pickett was shot and killed in the line of duty while assisting the Lebanon Police Department in a pursuit.

Deputy Pickett was the first line of duty death in Boone County since 1935 when Sheriff Pepper died as a result of a car accident on the way to a scene.

Thousands from across the state gathered for his memorial and funeral services this weekend.

His last 10-42, the End of Watch, was issued at 4:41 p.m. Friday.

"You will always be remembered for your kind heart, compassion, infectious laughter, loyalty, courage, bravery and warrior spirit. As a husband and father, your dedication to family and faith will be the cornerstones of your legacy. Go rest high on that mountain, brother. Be at peace, knowing although you have fallen, you will never be forgotten. We'll take the watch from here. This is your final 10-42."

In Loving Memory Of Deputy Jacob "Jake" M. Pickett

December 20, 1983 - March 2, 2018

Jake was born in Columbus, Ohio to Marlin and Rebecca Pickett on December 20, 1983. He attended and graduated from Brownsburg High School.

Jake took the necessary steps of starting his law enforcement career. He graduated from the Marion County Sheriff's Office Training Academy in 2010 and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2014 with class 202 as a pistol expert. He was employed with the Marion County Sheriff's Office from 2010-2013 as a detention deputy and was on the Sheriff's Presentation Corps. He received the County Correctional Officer of the Year in 2012 and the Sheriff's Jail Deputy of the Year in 2013.

Jake moved on to the Tipton County Sheriff's Department from 2013-2015 serving as a Deputy.

He joined the Boone County Sheriff's Department in 2015, where he served as a Taser instructor, K-9 Team Leader, K-9 handler, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #110.

Jacob was a beloved husband and caring father. His selflessness emulated every day; in uniform, he would greet children at school or organize a Christmas card drive for a child. When off-duty, he would rescue animals with his wife. The happiest day for Jacob was when he became a father.

While serving as a Deputy with the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Jake was killed in the line of duty on Friday, March 2, 2018, in Lebanon, IN.

Jake is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years, Jennifer A. Pickett, his two sons, parents; Marlin and Rebecca Pickett, sister, Kristi M. Woo, niece; Hannah N. Woo, his faithful K-9 partner, Brik, parents-in-law; Jon and Carol Lindstrom, brothers-in-laws; Jeremy Lindstrom, Christopher Lindstrom and a host of other relatives and friends.
