BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- A 61-year-old Brownsburg woman found dead Monday morning died of a heart condition and not because of a dog attack, as was previously suspected.
Brownsburg police were called to the home of Lola Endres, 61, around midnight Monday after her son found her lying in a pool of blood.
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Endres dead at the scene.
Police initially said it appeared at least one, if not both, of Endres' English bulldogs had attacked her prior to her death. Investigators said she had bite wounds on her legs.
"We believe that dog attack was a mitigating circumstance to her death, but we believe it possibly brought on another medical event," Brownsburg Police Capt. Jennifer Pyatt-Barrett said.
On Tuesday, the Hendricks County Coroner said an autopsy showed Endres had died because her heart stopped around 7 p.m. Sunday.
The coroner's report says all of the dog bites on Endres occurred postmortem.
Police said one of the bulldogs had been with the family for three years. The other was a rescue animal who'd only been with Endres for two weeks.
Both dogs were quarantined at the Hendricks County Animal Shelter following Endres' death.
