CARMEL — Carmel Clay Schools will be dismissing 10 minutes later each day through the end of the school year to make up for snow days.

The school system sent a letter to parents Thursday evening announcing the change to the school day that will allow them to meet state requirements for instructional days.

"After thoroughly discussing the various options for make-up days, we believed extending the school day through the end of the year is the best option," the letter said.

The changes to the school day will begin on Tuesday, February 19.

The new dismissal times are as follows:

  • Elementary Schools: 2:45PM
  • Middle Schools: 3:15PM
  • High School: 3:15PM

School start times will not change.

"While we hope for good weather moving forward, in the event that we have another cancellation, our plan is to add additional time to the school day as needed."

You can read the full letter sent to parents on Thursday below.

Dear CCS Families,

As most of you know, we need to make up two of the four school days cancelled due to inclement weather. The Indiana Department of Education requires schools to hold at least 180 instructional days per school year. CCS builds 182 instructional days into the school calendar leaving us two make-up days to meet the state requirement.

After thoroughly discussing the various options for make-up days, we believed extending the school day through the end of the year is the best option.

Carmel Clay Schools will dismiss 10 minutes later each school day through the end of the year in order to make up the two days lost to inclement weather. The changes to the school day will begin Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

School start times will not change. Students who ride the bus can expect their drop off times to be 10 minutes later than currently scheduled.

The new dismissal times are as follows:

Elementary Schools: 2:45PM

Middle Schools: 3:15PM

High School: 3:15PM

While we hope for good weather moving forward, in the event we have another cancellation, our plan is to add additional time to the school day as needed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Beresford
Superintendent
Carmel Clay Schools
