Man dead after police-involved shooting in Cass County

WALTON, Ind. -- Indiana State Police detectives are investigating after a man was shot and killed by deputies in Cass County early Saturday morning. 

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office were called to the 600 block of Carol Drive in Walton around 4 a.m. for a man stabbing himself with a knife, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum.

"After deputies arrived there was an incident that led to the deputies shooting the male with the knife," said Sgt. Slocum.

The man was pronounced dead a short time later. Indiana State Police have identified him as William Pollard, 45. 

State police say they will be conducting the investigation into the shooting. 

No deputies were injured in the incident.
