INDIANAPOLIS — This year's election marks 100 years since women were granted the right to make their voices heard at the polls.
On Thursday night, the Indiana History Center hosted an event in honor of the 19th Amendment. The celebration included food, drinks, tour exhibits, and speakers.
Ratified in 1920, the 19th Amendment prohibits states and the federal government from denying a person the right to vote based on sex.
Organizers say the event serves as a way to celebrate the historical achievements of women and brings women together.
"Women have come a long way in history. They've fought the fight for rights, whether it's to vote or equal pay and things like that, but then notoriously too women have had somewhat of an uphill battle," Karie Hon, with the Indiana Historical Society, said. "So, we want women to come together to help one another not to work against each other."
More than 300 people attended the sold-out event.
