CLINTON COUNTY — Sleeping in a bed is a luxury for some people, including children.

Mike Foust operates the Clinton County chapter of Sleeping in Heavenly Peace, and he is dedicated to changing that.

Building beds for children began as an idea pitched to the factory worker who does word work on the side.

"It was just tugging on me all day long," Foust said. "We build beds for children who do not have beds to sleep in."

Foust has been on a roll since July, building beds and getting them to children who don't hesitate to show how much it means to rest in their own cozy place to sleep.

"This girl picks up a pillow and she's on the couch crying, holding a pillow for dear life," he said. She'd been at least six years without a pillow. Even longer without a bed."

There are more deliveries to be made, but there is currently a hold-up. He needs mattresses to keep bringing sweet dreams to children across multiple counties.

"Forty beds across five counties in one day," Foust said. "Right now, I am sitting on a backlog of about 270 kids that need beds."

In faith, Foust said he will keep building because he's confident the mattresses he needs will come.

Loews has donated power tools Foust needs, and the community has never hesitated to help. Foust said he is certain the beds will be complete and ready to give comfort by February.
