CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A woman was killed in a crash with a reserve deputy who was responding to an emergency situation early Saturday morning.

Indiana State Police were called to the scene on State Road 75 in Camden just before 9 a.m.

Investigators say Clinton County Reserve Sheriff's Deputy William Amsler, 58, was on his way to an emergency with lights and sirens on when the crash occurred.

State police say their preliminary investigation shows that Amanda Grimes, 40, was traveling the opposite direction on State Road 75 when she went over the center line and was struck by Deputy Amsler's Charger. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch.

Grimes was airlifted to Indianapolis where she later died from her injuries. Deputy Amsler was taken to a local hospital to be treated for pain.

The crash remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.
