On the 12 year anniversary of her murder, the family of Ronli Ratliff is saying this is the year detectives will figure out who violently killed the 24-year-old inside her Mooresville home.
It's all because of a new development behind the scene. There are three new detectives who are taking on the case in their free time, and represent what's called the Morgan County Cold Case Team.
Together they have taken over the case from the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. They are interviewing witnesses, and taking on new leads -- conducting an investigation completely independent of the department.
12 years ago, Ronli was found inside her Mooresville home, which had been lit on fire. It was later learned that she had been violently killed, and the fire was set to cover up the crime.
It's those details which still haunt Ronli's family.
"Whoever did this is still out there and we know they're evil and mean, and could do it anytime to anyone, to your daughter or niece. It is so important we get them off the street. I don't care if they're changed or reborn, they did it," Kim Sink said.
Sink, who is Ronli's aunt, says nothing can compare to the pain she feels daily, imagining what happened to Ronli, and who did it.
