INDIANAPOLIS—Conservation officers were successful in their search for ten boaters, including six children, on the Mississinewa River.

According to Conservation Officer Mark Baker, the four adults and six children were reported missing while boating on the Mississinewa in Randolph County, which is east of Muncie. The children ranged in age from 10 months to 8-years-old.

The search began just after midnight on Thursday when the group did not arrive at its expected take out location. A family member told authorities they had spoken to the group which was stuck on an obstruction and running out of daylight. The phone's battery then died.

DNR officers used a thermal imaging camera to search the river in low-light conditions and found the group on the river bank. All ten were OK and were preparing to spend the night on the bank, although they had no supplies with them.

DNR is reminding the public of the importance of leaving a "float plan" detailing trip details with a friend or family member before leaving on a boat trip.
