INDIANAPOLIS — One of the city's most popular spots is getting some big projects done this summer.

Newfields is kicking off three construction projects to support infrastructure, campus enhancements and connectivity.

The first project will be to add 'Parking green,' which will consist of 200 new parking spaces by converting 78,000 square foot of land into 'reinforced turf' that will allow a safer more sustainable way to park cars on grass without danging the ground below.

This is made possible through a product called 'GEOBLOCK,' that is made from recycled plastic and lays flat underneath the grass to help distribute the weight of the vehicle.

Parking Green will be located adjacent to Newfields' existing parking lot, near the front entrance.

A new multi-use path will be put in, as well. The route will begin at 42nd Street and continue all the way around Newfields perimeter, ending at its 38th Street entrance.

Crosswalks will also be installed on 42nd Street, Michigan Road and 38th Street to ensure safe crossings for both cyclists and pedestrians.

And finally, a Pacers Bikeshare station will also be installed on the campus. The bike will be located on The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park at the Central Canal Towpath.

All three projects have an expected finish time of fall 2019.
