INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday night on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

According to information from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just before 6 p.m., police responded to a report of a person shot in the 5600 block of East 36th Street.

Officers found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said he was transported to Methodist Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Four people have died in shootings in Marion County since Saturday morning, including a man who was shot and killed Sunday morning in Beech Grove while he slept.

IMPD public information officer Grace Sibley said the violence this weekend is disheartening for the officers who patrol the city.

"It's discouraging, for sure. The officers are doing exactly what we ask them to do," she said. "They are going into the neighborhoods. They are identifying the people responsible for the violence. They are offering wrap-around services. The officers on north district literally carry bags of food in their car.

"At any point in time, they are ready to connect people with treatment or resources to improve their quality of life. Violence like this is discouraging to us."
