PLAINFIELD, Ind. -- Two men posing as roofers are taking advantage of elderly people in Hendricks County and stealing items from inside their houses.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, two men knock on doors of elderly people and say they're roofers offering to give estimates. When one man takes the homeowner around to look at the roof, the other goes into the house and steals items.

A police spokesperson said there was one report of the theft over the weekend, and police have noticed similar reports filed recently.

One suspect is described as a black or Hispanic man, dressed in all gray. The other is a heavyset white man with short dark hair, wearing jeans and a T-shirt. They were last seen driving a light colored minivan, possibly with a Ohio temporary.

The thefts have taken place in the Colony Lake area. If you have any information, call the Plainfield Police Department at 317-839-8700.

The incidents are similar to a case that took place on Indianapolis' southwest side in March. In that case, two suspects stole from an 86-year-old man by pretending to be landscapers.
