CARMEL — The Carmel Police Department is working to sort out exactly what happened Monday morning in a neighborhood near Hazel Dell Parkway and East 146th Street.

What police do know is that an incident in that neighborhood around 8 a.m. left two people dead and another wounded.

Police were called to the 14300 block of Riverrock Court where a person was threatening suicide and gunshots were being fired. When police got to the area they found two people shot. One was dead at the scene and the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Carmel PD.

"Officers located the suspect nearby and one officer discharged their service weapon during the subsequent interaction," police said in a statement. The suspect died at the scene.

Police say their investigation shows the suspect did shoot the two people.

"Investigators are in preliminary stages of conducting a professional and thorough investigation regarding the circumstances of this incident."

Names of the deceased have not been released, and police are not saying what led up to the shootings.

Police are asking that anyone with information or evidence, such as video surveillance recordings, that can help with the investigation to call Carmel Police at 317-571-2580 and ask to speak with an officer.
