MARION — A 64-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing the road in Marion on Monday morning.

Marion Police Department officers were called to Spencer Avenue at Baldwin Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. for a report of an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The 85-year-old driver told police that he was going to the grocery store and had just checked his rearview mirror to merge when he struck the victim in the intersection. Witnesses told police that traffic was stopped when the driver entered the intersection.

Police say Peter DeJanovich, 64, later died at the hospital. His cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

The crash remains under investigation by the Marion Police Department.
