BLOOMINGTON — A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged this week with violating Gov. Eric Holcomb’s local emergency order.
At about 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a crash on SR 45. A deputy found a Ford F-150 had left the road and crashed into multiple trees.
The driver was unhurt, but he was taken to the Monroe County Correctional Center and has since been officially charged with operating while intoxicated endangering a person, minor consuming alcohol, operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to at Least .08 but less than .15 and violation of a local emergency order.
Violation of a local emergency order is a Class B misdemeanor. Holcomb’s stay-at-home order went into effect at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday night, so the order had been in effect for about four hours.
The sheriff’s office said the man didn’t meet the parameters as “permitted travel." This is the first known case of somebody in central Indiana being charged with violating the emergency order.
