PLAINFIELD — A contract employee at the Plainfield Correctional Facility has been charged in connection with an attempt to allegedly smuggle drugs into the prison.

According to a report from the Indiana Department of Correction, investigators received information that a contract employee at the facility was trafficking illegal drugs into the prison.

When the suspect, a 42-year-old woman from Indianapolis, reported for work on Friday she was met by IDOC investigators who spoke with her and resulted in the recovery of suspected illegal drugs in her immediate possession. The woman is accused of attempting to smuggle marijuana, suboxone strips, tobacco, methamphetamine and cocaine.

"Trafficking of any nature in a correctional facility creates hazards for the offender population and our staff," Warden Stanley Knight said. "Our investigators investigate all allegations of trafficking and work closely with the Hendricks County Prosecutor's Office to hold people fully accountable for such violations."

The woman has been charged in Hendricks Circuit Court with two felony charges — trafficking with an inmate and dealing in a schedule I controlled substance.
