Employee shoots teen during attempted robbery at Indy Auto Zone

INDIANAPOLIS — A teen is recovering after police say he was shot by an employee while attempting to rob an Indianapolis store Thursday evening.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to Auto Zone in the 7400 block of N. Michigan Road around 9:30 p.m. for a report of an attempted robbery. Upon arrival, officers were told that two people had tried robbing the store and one of the suspects was shot by an employee.

Both suspects then fled the store.

Officers later located the wounded suspect on the porch of a nearby residence. He was identified as a juvenile and taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. He is expected to survive.

Police have not identified or arrested a second suspect at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
