Father sought for questioning in shooting death of 8-year-old girl

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are wanting to speak with a 40-year-old father in connection with the shooting death of his 8-year-old daughter on Sunday.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the Indianapolis Fire Station near East 38th Street and North Layman Avenue around 5:30 p.m. for an young girl who had been shot. Police say a parent brought the girl to the fire station.

The girl was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children where she later died. Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena Ballew identified the young girl as Kendrielle Brye. Her official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Following the girl's death, police issued an alert for her father, Kendall Brye.

Police say Brye fled the scene in a gray or silver 2016 Dodge Charge with Indiana Collegiate Plate IP1340 with his son, Kendall Brye Jr. The young boy was later located safe with family members, but Brye remains on the run. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Detectives also obtained a search warrant for the family's home in the 5600 block of Culver Street Sunday evening to collect and recover potential evidence in the girl's death.
