INDIANAPOLIS — Nearly two dozen people are facing charges as part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets Operation in north and central Indiana.

Safe Streets Task Forces are designed to eliminate threats and violence in communities across the country, according to an online explanation.

As part of one of the FBI's Safe Streets Operations in Indiana, the FBI joined forces with the United States Attorney's Office, the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Sheriff's Department, the Marion County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police to conduct raids at multiple locations in several communities including Indianapolis.

One of those warrants was served at a home on Hope Springs Court Wednesday morning.

From those raids, 21 people were charged across eight indictments including a 25-year-old Indianapolis man who faces charges for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and distributing cocaine.

FBI officials could only confirm that the warrant was being served, the details about why and what it was in reference to have not been released.

“Today's law enforcement actions are a culmination of more than a year's worth of investigative activity led by the Fort Wayne FBI's Safe Streets Task Force, which includes as its partners the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police,” said Grant Mendenhall, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Indianapolis Division. “This was an outstanding example of Federal and State agencies working together to positively impact Northeast Indiana by disrupting and dismantling a large scale drug trafficking organization. These arrests should serve as a reminder that we will continue to target these offenders and the impact they are having on our communities.”

All cases will be prosecuted by the US Attorney's Office.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter commented, “I am extremely proud of our participation with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.” Carter continued, “The hard work of our assigned investigators, in collaboration with other member representatives, speaks to the dedication of state, county, local and federal law enforcement partners who work daily to make Indiana communities safer for everyone to enjoy.”
