INDIANAPOLIS — A curfew will be in effect in Marion County for a third consecutive night beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The curfew will be in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett's executive order.

“On a day designated for the exercise of the people’s power over their government, it is vital that we do our part to protect that exercise amid a challenging time for our city and our nation,” Hogsett said in a statement.

The curfew begins an hour later than those that were imposed on Sunday and Monday nights following violent demonstrations that took place after nightfall last weekend.

Anyone found in violation of the curfew could face up to 180 days in jail and fines up to $10,000.

“We continue to reevaluate how best to ensure the peaceful exercise of constitutional rights in our city," Hogsett said. "My continued thanks go out to Marion County residents who abide by these orders, as well as members of law enforcement who help keep our community safe.”
