INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was shot while responding to a shoplifting incident at a Lowes on Indianapolis' northeast side Sunday evening.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 9300 block of Galaxy Lane. Police say the officer was attempting to apprehend a shoplifter when the two got into a physical struggle and the officer was shot.
The officer was treated on the scene by other officers and then taken to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.
Police have not issued any additional information about possible suspects or arrests at this time.
Indianapolis-Marion County Council President Vos Osili issued the following statement early Monday morning, "I am extremely grateful for the service of all the dedicated men and women of IMPD, and particularly to those who came to the immediate aid of their fellow officer wounded in yesterday's shooting. We are very fortunate that our wounded IMPD officer is in good condition today. I ask all residents to join me in praying for his quick and complete recovery and for the safety of all of our first responders."
