INDIANAPOLIS -- IMPD officers arrested one of their own recruits Monday morning on charges of strangulation, pointing a firearm and battery.

According to the department, officers were called to the 6700 block of Hollow Run Drive around 4:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve  on a report of a subject pointing a firearm.

Once on scene, officers learned an IMPD recruit had allegedly pointed a firearm at the caller's boyfriend during a fight.

Following investigation into the case, charges were filed against 24-year-old IMPD Recruit Officer Moussa Niang on Friday and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Niang was taken into custody without incident Monday morning. IMPD said Chief Bryan Roach immediately terminated Niang’s employment after the charges were filed.

As of Monday evening, Niang was being held at the Marion County Jail while awaiting an initial hearing.
