Arrest made in shooting death of 76-year-old Indianapolis man

INDIANAPOLIS — A 76-year-old Indianapolis man who was shot Monday at a home on the city's northwest side died Friday, and police have arrested a 72-year-old man in the shooting.

The incident happened Monday afternoon at 7829 Marquis Lane, near West 79th Street and Township Line Road.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 76-year-old George Johnson was found outside the residence, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Johnson told officers that his friend, 72-year-old Harley Edmonds, had shot him and was still inside the home. Police tried to get Edmonds to come outside, but when he refused, the SWAT team was called in. It took about three hours, but SWAT officers were able to take Edmonds into custody.

Johnson, meanwhile, was rushed to St. Vincent Hospital where he died Friday. Detectives continue to investigate what happened between the two men to prompt the shooting.
