INDIANAPOLIS — A Greenwood resident will be forced to repay nearly $20,000 after a state investigation revealed he was working while claiming unemployment insurance benefits.

Neal Tanner, 46, pleaded guilty to unemployment insurance fraud earlier this month Marion County Court. He was sentenced to four years of probation and was ordered to repay $19,890.

An Indiana Department of Workforce Development employee determined Tanner was working and receiving wages while claiming unemployment insurance benefits.

DWD receives wage reports and data from Hoosier employers documenting who is employed and receiving compensation, to make sure fraud isn’t being committed.
