TAMPA — An Indianapolis man pleaded guilty to making threats and mailing a dead animal to a person in Florida, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Romney Ellis, 55, has harassed a person in Hillsborough County, Florida, for at least four years by sending text messages, sexually explicit images, photos, videos, mailings, and racially charged messages, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office Middle District Florida.

Ellis used the U.S. Mail system to harass the person in Florida, their friends, their family, and mailed a dead rat and a black rose in a package at least once, according to the release. He also threatened to decapitate and set the person on fire.

A search warrant was executed in February at his Indianapolis home and officers found a note containing the names and addresses of the person in Florida and their friends and family, according to the release.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 30 and could face up to five years in federal prison, according to the release.
