INDIANAPOLIS — A mistrial was declared Tuesday in the Indianapolis trial of 38-year-old Karl Woodall. A hearing will be held Wednesday to set a new trial date.

According to a spokesman for the Marion County Prosecutor, an issue with a juror prompted the mistrial.

Woodall was on trial for the March 6, 2017 murder of James Sapp, an Indianapolis man who was found shot to death inside an east side apartment.

Investigators determined the shooting was sparked by a dispute between the two men over money, drugs and a gun.

Woodall is already serving a 63-year sentence for another murder, not directly connected to the Sapp case.

A few weeks after the Sapp killing, Woodall shot and killed 37-year-old Stefanie Coulson. She was discovered dead inside her east side home. An autopsy showed the Indianapolis woman had been shot in the head and neck "multiple times" and was stabbed over 30 times.

Coulson and Woodall knew each other and had augured over her use of his van without his knowledge.

Woodall was tried and convicted least year.
