JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- Johnson County authorities are looking for a possible police impersonator who pulled a woman over in Trafalgar on Friday.

The woman told police she was driving northbound on Nineveh Road near State Road 252 when she noticed what she thought was a police vehicle with approaching her with lights and sirens on.

She said she pulled over, but when the “officer” exited his vehicle, she noticed he was wearing a campaign hat. She also noticed he was wearing a “very faded” dark brown police shirt and pants, and that his belt had nothing on it except a holster holding a gun that appeared to be fake. The man was reportedly wearing a badge that just said “Sheriff” on it.

The woman told police the man approached her vehicle and did not introduce himself, instead asking her, “Do you know what you did wrong?” When the man asked for her identification, the woman told him she didn’t want to. At that point he reportedly ordered her out of that car.

Feeling that something wasn’t right, the woman decided to drive off. She told police that if the man was a real police officer “she would find out the hard way.”

Instead of following her, the woman said the man pulled into the next driveway and drive off in the other direction.

The man was described as standing approximately 5’7” tall and weighing around 250 pounds. He was driving a white SUV with a black grill and a light bar. There may have been black spray paint on the hood of the vehicle.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS. Your call may remain anonymous.
