KOKOMO — A Kokomo woman accused of leaving a racist letter for a neighbor has been sentenced to counseling to address her “biases.”
Howard County Judge Douglas Tate sentenced Deborah Cantwell to 180 days of unsupervised probation at a change of plea hearing Tuesday.
Cantwell was arrested in October after she allegedly left a letter with racial comments on the door of a new neighbor who had just moved into the home.
The letter made derogatory racial comments toward a child in the family, according to the sheriff’s department.
Cantwell was arrested on the suspicion of intimidation and was booked in to the Howard County Jail.

She posted an $8,000 bond and was released from jail.
Cantwell was criminally charged with intimidation, criminal mischief and harassment, but the intimidation charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement, records show.
Cantwell was found guilty of criminal mischief and harassment, both misdemeanors.
RTV6 left a message for her defense attorney Tuesday evening.
