MARION — A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 7-year-old girl in Marion.

Tony Cotton, 25, was arrested Friday on a warrant for attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a firearm, and battery committed with a deadly weapon, according to a press release from the Marion Police Department.

Around 6 p.m. on Oct 19., a 7-year-old girl was shot in the leg after shots were fired into a home in the 100 block of West 17th Street, according to the release.

On Sunday, Cotton was arrested and charged on the suspicion of possession of marijuana, according to the release. Because he was not able to bond out of jail, police say this gave them more time to build evidence in the shooting investigation.

Cotton is being held in the Grant County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
