INDIANAPOLIS — People living in an Indianapolis neighborhood are on edge after a man was caught on video trying to set fire to several homes on the city's south side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers believe the man in the video below may have tried to set fire to at least seven different homes. Home surveillance video captured him in the act.

The video above was captured in the the 1600 block of Lawrence Avenue over the weekend. Christine Bullock and her husband were not home when the unknown man tried to set fire to the back of their house and then their front porch, but their kids were. A car in their driveway was also destroyed by fire.

"I could have been killed had it not been for the person who knocked on our door to make sure we were awake," Bullock's daughter Alexis said. "This all could have gone up in flames before we knew what was happening."

"Very upsetting when you are away and your kids are calling you and saying someone is tryingto burn your house down," Christine said.

The family called police and officers chased a man they believe was the suspect, but they were not able to catch him.

If you recognize the suspect contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
