DELAWARE COUNTY — Police in Delaware County are actively searching for a man they say slipped his ankle monitor and escaped from home detention.
Jamie Adams was on home detention for possession of methamphetamine.
According to court documents filed through the Delaware County Prosecutor's office he's been on the run since October 3, when he cut and removed his electronic ankle monitor.
Adams has a criminal history spanning back to when he was a teen. He was convicted of murdering a man in 1991, at the age of 18, and sentenced to 60 years in prison. Court documents from that case say that Adams and "cohorts" gagged, beat and robbed a man before driving him out into a secluded area, stabbing him 47 times and then dumping the body into a river.
While serving his time in Madison County, Adams attempted to escape from jail in 1996 and received an additional sentence, which was served consecutively with his murder conviction.
In February of 2014, Hoffman was granted a sentence modification by the Delaware County Court and released on probation, after only serving roughly 24 years of his sentence.
In August of 2018, Adams was arrested on multiple drug-related charges and was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in the department of corrections, 112 which he was required to spend incarcerated with the rest on probation.
Then in September 2018, Delaware County filed a probation violation on the murder case based on his drug arrest and Madison County followed suit and filed a probation violation in October of that year.
In January 2019, Adams was sentenced to two years on electronically monitored home detention to be served in Delaware County, where he lived.
In February 2019, the state requested that Adams be sent back to prison for his probation violations but the courts disagreed and closed his probation. The Delaware County Prosecutor says Adams received no penal sanction for that sentence.
On October 3, court documents state that Adams cut his ankle monitor and escaped home detention. A probation violation was filed on October 14 in Madison County and the court issued a warrant for his arrest.
Then on October 15, Delaware County filed an additional formal charge for escape and habitual offender against Adams and a second warrant was issued.
As of October 18, Adams remains on the run.
