INDIANAPOLIS — A man was shot and killed late Saturday while attempting to break into a house on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Officers were called to the house in the 3600 block of North Linwood Avenue just before 11:45 p.m., according to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Marion County Coroner Alfie McGinty identified the man as 32-year-old David Ingram.

Detectives believe Ingram had tried to force his way into the house when he was shot. Police said Ingram and the resident knew each other, and the resident stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said officers responded a stabbing at the house earlier in the day.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
